Inquisitor: I’d like to know more about Anders. What was he like?
Hawke: What a guy holy shit, it’s an honour to have him as a friend. This motherfucker kept half of Darktown and Lowtown alive when the Chantry’s “charity” forgot their existence. This motherfucker spent six years trying to convince people maybe mages deserve basic human decency, all while evading Meredith and her bucket-head brigade. This motherfucker saved countless mage lives helping them escape from the Gallows prison right under the Chantry’s nose. This motherfucker gave hope that maybe mages have a chance at living. You don’t know perseverance until you’ve met Anders.
He blew up a place of worship with innocent people inside…look at the definition of terrorist.
And before people yell at me, I like Anders character I like his development and growth and etc. But even I, a fan of anders, understands that what he did was an act of terrorism.
I’m not telling anybody not to like him, but understand what he did was terrorism.
I would love to see the collection of cats whose owners are Anders fans

this is Mousse. when i went to the shelter to adopt a cat, she stuck her paws through the bars of her kennel to tap me on the shoulder and immediately got her claws stuck in my shirt like thirty seconds after i walked through the door to the cat room. i guess she chose me. she’s my troublesome, box-hoarding trash child and i love her and probably talk about her way too much.

I think it’s silly how many people call Varric’s attitude to Anders poor writing. Life isn’t actually a BW game where once you attain a certain amount of friend points, you’re locked in for good. Friendships can and do end abruptly, and it doesn’t mean the other person is terrible for bowing out. Anders left Kirkwall in chaos, possibly sent Hawke back to a life of being on the run, and his actions lead to countless of deaths. It’s perfectly fair for Varric to be upset or resentful towards him.
The sad part about this is that it shows that they don’t get Varric at all. Varric lies…a lot. Maybe he is angry with Anders…or maybe he’s doing the best thing he can for a friend by lying his ass off by condemning him in public and supporting him in private. It would be very much in character for him to be in the background, pulling strings to keep Anders safe. I’m not disregarding the possibility that he’s angry with Anders. But I am bringing up the possibility that he could still be his friend and helping him secretly.
I would agree with this take. Varric also insisted for a game and a half that he had no idea where Hawke was anymore or how to contact them, and we all know that was a big fib.
All Grey Wardens have to deal with the consequences of the taint. Nightmares. The knowledge that it will eventually consume you. All the terrible burden of this evil in your blood. Frankly it’s a lot to endure. And the Wardens are there for each other to help.
Anders however, since he left for Kirkwall, has no-one to help him. Not even his cat.
