Every single time one of these climate change reports comes out, the conclusion is always, “It’s even worse than what we thought was the worst case scenario.”
Every. Single. Time. Without exception.
How many more reports do we need before we accept that we are literally killing ourselves?
“Climate change interacting with socioeconomic structure to cause an internal refugee crisis in one of the wealthiest countries in the world. Expect more of this.” – @sethfinnegan1
If Trudeau says its in the National Interest he should have to prove it.
The facts are that the oilsands represents a small portion of Canada’s jobs and GDP, and building Kinder Morgan is not going to significantly change either of those figures:
Well here is the big picture, if Canada wants to meet its climate emission goals and if the world is to avoid catastrophic climate change 85% of oil sands deposits must remain in the ground:
This is the big picture which should completely negate the need for further pipelines which will lead to further oil sands production.
And that’s not going into the fact that this pipelines infringes on indigenous and treaty rights, and that a large oil spill in the Vancouver harbout would be catastrophic to BC economy, ecology, and even will effect Washington State.
Oil pipelines never lead to significant job growth. I repeat, OIL PIPELINES NEVER LEAD TO SIGNIFICANT JOB GROWTH. Also, looking at the ‘big picture’ would be looking at the long-term impact on the planet and the human race’s ability to continue to exist, not focusing solely on the (relatively minor) economic impact for Canada.
