when i say “i hate men” im not talking about every individual man in the world, im talking about men as a social class, but if youre the kind of man that gets offended when i say i hate men then i do, specifically, hate you on an individual level

Straight men have no idea of how uncomfortable they make women, to a point where women are automatically on guard whenever they meet a new guy. I know this firsthand because every time I meet a girl and she finds out I’m gay, I can visibly watch her guard drop; her body language changes to complete relief. It’s pretty astounding to observe.

Granted, I’m sure if a girl is homophobic it’s a different story, but you get my point.

real-pcys:

ok so my mom attempted suicide earlier this week and i tried to watch her and take care of her myself but i ended up having to take her to a hospital and that’s where she is now and the doctors are saying she’ll be there for two weeks at the least, because she is not moving or eating. Then, the next day after she went to the hospital, my apartment flooded and for 2 days the water has been uncontrollable and as soon as I clean one room of all the water then another room floods. I can send video if you want it as proof. we have one bathroom and the flooding is stemming from that one bathroom and so it is unusable. we literally don’t have a toilet or water or anywhere to go to use the toilet. we have a new landlord who is dragging his feet and won’t call a plumber and i’ve been begging him everyday to fix it for almost a week now and he still says it won’t be until wednesday before he can get someone to fix it. so like I guess I’m supposed to hold going to the bathroom until then. my mom’s hospital bill is going to be due (it was reduced through a low income program but it’s still a LOT) and I need to buy a wet vacuum to clean up this water and most of my clothes are wet and ruined and we need to stay somewhere with a bathroom and my sister and I still need to eat. I’ve already spent what little money I had on stuff to try to clean up the water but that isn’t working anymore.

I can’t be online and active very much because I’m fighting back water constantly. We very much desperately need help. I can’t even deal with all this going on and I haven’t even been able to eat since yesterday morning. Please please please reblog if you can and if you can help thank you so much.

Like when I say ‘white people need to talk to bigots because bigots don’t listen to minorities’ I did not say ‘and it will be easy and fun’.

I know it’s easier to be like ~boo hooo the world is so evil and there’s nothing I can dooo~ but it’s statistically and experientially understood, just by fucking 3rd grade logic, that a bigot will be less amenable towards the subject of their bigotry.

Bigots don’t just ~not like~ minorities- they don’t think we’re human. It’s not about whether they agree with you or not in the moment. Like, pause.

Understand this:

Calls to action for white people to oppose bigotry are calls for white people to position themselves as opposition. THEY ARE NOT CALLS FOR ~SUCCESSFUL DEBATE~

Do not think you are expected nor are you likely to just go around arguing with bigots and they’ll go ‘I agree with you because you’re white!’.

Your job is to be sandpaper.

Every time they open their mouths to make a bigoted joke, or a bigoted remark, or post their shitty bigoted opinion online, you grate against them.

Your job is to make it hard to be a bigot or a fascist. Your job is to ostracize them. Your job is to speak over them the way they love to speak over minorities. Your job is to make it difficult, lonely, annoying, stressful and unwelcome to be a bigot.

When you are white and silent, You are making it easy. You are just letting it happen.

When minorities speak up for themselves, they are in danger, and the bigot just writes off our arguments as the chattering of ‘lessers’.

You, white people, whether you think so or not, are their peers.

Specifically those of you who look and talk like, to an outside observation, your average white american.

Bigots think you all think like them, but are too scared to say it. That, or you’re too much of a coward to stop them.

YOUR JOB IS TO PUSH BACK AND PROVE THEM WRONG.

YOUR JOB IS TO SEPARATE THEM FROM THEIR OWN COMMUNITY AT LARGE.

There are devils among you and if you want to stop being associated with them then fucking prove it. You’re pretty much the only people who can.

Damn this is so important. SPREAD THIS YALL

If you’re white and feel like you have no idea where to start. Take a breather because this one causes shit and gets exhausting

YOUR SHITTY FAMILIES

This isn’t supposed to sound like,, against this. It might, idk.

So my dad makes racist jokes constantly. I try to call him out on it, but when I do my whole family acts like I’m some “radical sjw bad evil” and it almost feels like he gets more support when I call him out? How would I go about doing it in a more productive manner? Or do I do it just for him to know someone thinks it’s not ok ?

A lot of people understandably have this sort of thought process about it. And your worry that he’s getting more support is understandable, too. But listen to me, please:

You are supposed to support victims of bigotry because it’s the right thing to do. Because it’s YOUR truth. Even if no one in your family agrees, doing the right thing is just plain human decency and honesty.

Now, to speak to your unique situation, a consideration that I think a lot of people haven’t had the chance to make:

Speaking out in defense of your father’s chosen victims is one thing. Speaking out in support of said victims is another. If it seems like fighting your dad on this rallies his Bigot Backup Crew, consider this question: How often do you speak openly in praise, favor and support of minorities?

Another: Do you respond to your father with questions? Or do you make accusations? Ask him why he says that. Not even as if you’re hurt or upset. In fact… Listen. I am a person who would risk bodily harm to use a sharp tongue, so fair warning please make this consideration of your own will bc I don’t know you or your father but I will say this approach can hurt egos and thus it could cause extra tension.

1. Ask your father why he says the things he says. Ask flatly. Not defensively. Not emotionally. Not because you don’t care, but because he is clearly, in this situation your inferior. He is not smarter or wiser, in his bigotry he has shown his opinions to be dull and disappointing. Ask him as if you don’t care what his answer is- the ball may end up in your court, leading him to defensively support his argument. It doesn’t matter what he says here unless it’s an apology. Whatever he says, if its negative, just judge him silently. But repeat this.

2. Remind your father of his fear. If he is a bigot he is afraid. He is small and scared. He will not admit this, and does not want it brought up. He will fight the idea. But it will weaken him, because he will feel the lack of respect. To him, ‘respect’ (being feared) and power are huge parts of his identity. Small comments like ‘what are you afraid of?’ and ‘why are you threatened all the time?’ will upset his stance. Be patient.

3. Comment openly in praise of minorities. Little things. Big things. Not even for his sake, but for the sake of expressing your support. Defense isn’t everything. Let him know where your heart lies.

Ultimately, again, this is about sandpaper. Your father has been raised up and surrounded by bigots and hasn’t had many situations where the response to his bullshit was ‘that’s fucking ridiculous Karl’. Keep in mind my last suggestions are swords, and should be used carefully. Masculine egos are fragile and when they crack, they sometimes cut whoever is near.

When you’re confused because you’re a villain whose attempted mass genocide twice but people are still trying to say you’re “good”.

When your confused because Loki is being called a villain when he hasn’t occupied that role except for once in Avengers and he attempted genocide only once on a nation Asgard was at war with using tactics not out of custom for the Aesir or estranged from their (decidedly wrong, but still present) morality.( See Bor’s seeming wiping out of all the Dark Elves i.e. “he killed them all” and Odin/Hela’s evident history of drowning nations in blood, as well as Thor’s “When I’m king, I’ll hunt the monster’s down and slay them all”, “Father, let’s finish them together!”)

So yeah. Unless you call attempting to rule Midgard a mass genocide, at which point an explanation on he intended to rule corpses should most likely be provided and the embarrassing body count of only 74 should probably be addressed.

Loki has done morally condemnable and wrong things, but he is not a villain in any traditional sense of the word, and has a body count comparable to beloved heroes (Thor, who mass murdered 145 Jotun in ten minutes because he was insulted).

This sort of thing really bothers me, to be quite honest.

It’s like people aren’t even paying attention to Loki’s story arc because he happened to be built up as an antagonist in Thor and showed up as the villain in The Avengers.

As if… villains can’t have redemptions?

A villain with a redemption arc? Wow. Who would have thought that was possible, am I right?

Yes, Loki tried to commit genocide of the Frost Giants in Thor, but that was after Thor tried to do the exact same thing and succeeded in killing over one hundred of them. Not to mention, it’s a very common trait for Aesir royals to destroy their enemies totally and thoroughly. Odin’s father was confirmed of committing such a crime and so was Odin. Thor and Loki both attempted it once and failed.

Loki’s motives and methods were questionable since Thor was banished for the very same act that Loki later tried to commit, but he just found out that he was a Jotun. He just found out that his entire life was a lie. He just found out that he is a member of a species that is openly despised by the people who raised him. He just found out that the people who were supposed to love him taught him to hate and fear what he was. He just found out that he was a monster, and in desperately attempting to prove that he wasn’t, he stumbled and became what he was most afraid of, which eventually led to a suicide attempt and a downhill spiral that led him straight into The Avengers. Was Loki right? No. Was Loki just? No. Did Loki have the motivation? Yes. Did he do something that Thor also did and technically succeeded at better than Loki did? Yes.

So, if Thor is redeemable in any way, why isn’t Loki? As a matter of fact, if the only criteria for always being a villain is doing bad things in one’s lifetime, then a lot of the Avengers we call heroes today should never have become heroes in the first place.

Yes, Loki was a villain in The Avengers. He did horrible, despicable things in The Avengers, but since then, his story arc has taken a new direction. In The Avengers, Loki wasn’t trying to commit genocide. He was attempting to take control of Midgard to rule it. Wouldn’t be much to rule if he simply killed all of the humans on the planet, would it? And guess what? He was working for someone else! Aka–Thanos. We actively see Thanos’ minions threatening Loki if he fails. While the movie doesn’t dive into the exact relationship between Loki and Thanos, it’s safe to say that showing up on Midgard with the scepter and an army probably wasn’t Loki’s idea. Since Thanos is the “ultimate bad” that MCU has been leading up to, chances are, the plan was probably Thanos’ idea and he took whatever means necessary to achieve it. Loki was the most detached from himself in The Avengers. He physically looked ill the entire movie and seemed the least genuine out of every other appearance he’s made. There’s plenty of subtext there to insist that Loki’s endured something terrible and isn’t on Midgard because he wholeheartedly wants to be there.

Does that make Loki’s actions okay? Of course not. Does that mean he was justified? No. Does that mean he’s committed some pretty awful crimes? Yep, it does, but does that make him unable to shift the direction his life is taking afterward? No. Redemption arcs have always and will always be a thing for heroes, villains, anti-heroes and just about any other type of character that’s fucked up in their lifetime.

In Thor The Dark World, Loki is the only reason that they’re able to get the Dark Elves away from Asgard. If Loki didn’t work with Thor, Asgard likely would have been destroyed. Loki fights alongside Thor to defend Asgard and he actively saves both Thor and Jane from harm and even death. Protecting Thor nearly cost him his life. Did he use his new position to gain some sort of advancement for himself at the end of the movie by taking the throne for himself? Yep, but Loki’s a chaotic neutral character by definition. He will almost always do what will benefit him the most if there are no other factors pushing him in one direction or the other. But Loki didn’t kill Odin, even though he had all of the motives in the world to do so.

His redemption arc only continues in Thor Ragnarok, because without Loki, the Aesir race would have gone extinct. He was the one who brought the ship to Asgard and boarded the surviving Asgardians onto it. He was the one who ignited Ragnarok in order to defeat and kill Hela. He was the reason that the survivors were able to escape and maybe preserve their way of life.

Loki’s made a solid transition from being an antagonist to a villain (it’s important to keep in mind that “antagonist” and “villain” are not synonyms. You can be an antagonist without being a villain) to something that resembles an anti-hero. Loki may not go about doing good deeds in a stereotypical sense of saying, “look at me, look at me, I’m good now,” and, instead, does them in his own way, but insisting that Loki is still actively playing the role of a villain is grossly exaggerated. That’s not the current direction his story is taking. You can’t disregard character development for the sake of saying, “he did bad shit, so he’s still a bad guy.” As I already said, if that’s the logic we’re using, most of our heroes shouldn’t be heroes at all.
